So thankfully Jacob has been acting completely normal since his incident. Amy, I totally agree, his only symptom - lack of equilibrium - is inconsistent with the reaction to destroying angel. While some mushrooms can cause the lack of equilibrium stuff, we don't have those kinds of mushrooms in our yard, etc. I am still freaked out that we do have a very poisonous mushroom in our yard, though. Don't worry though... Aaron picked them all. Ya. Because they only grow once? Men... sheesh. Anyways, I certainly wish I had an answer. I'm irritated with our peds office. Of course, I never heard back from them. Beyond that, I think they should have called the next day to see how he was doing. I obtained a copy of the labs and they did do a toxicology screen, but I can't really tell if amatoxins were tested or not. But what I CAN tell is that no further labs have been drawn - stupid peds. I used to like our doctor, just not his staff but now I'm not impressed with anyone there. Wish I had more choices up here :sigh:. I'm also annoyed by others reactions (not you guys). I've gotten some "are you kidding? You took him to the ER?" looks and stuff when I tell people the story and it makes me sad and angry. If they would have been here they would have known how scary it was, even if only for a few minutes. Anyways, enough about that. I guess I'll just *try* to be happy without answers.
In other news, I did my first BIG grocery shopping trip with both boys. Normally, I only do small runs and take the stroller and only buy what I can carry around in reusable bags (which also helps save money). This time I did the cart. It was cake. Boys were great and they loved being in such close proximity to each other (Brody in the bjorn, Jake in the cart). I'm sure I could have handled it long ago, I just haven't needed to so why do it, right?
I took the boys to the park the other day and poor Jacob wanted desperately to play with an older girl there. She had no interest. She brought a ball with her and when she decided she was done playing with it, she threw it off to the side. Jacob decided this was the time to make his move. So he grabbed the ball and handed it to her. Score! She takes it from him, but sadly, just throws it in the other direction and proceeds to the swing. Jacob tries again. He picks up the ball and follows her to the swing, standing directly in front of her. She demands "outta my way!", he moves, still holding the ball out to her. Finally, he just throws it at her and it hits her in the face. I run over at this point to tell him not to hit girls in the face with balls and his response? "Mommy, away!!" Finally, I talk him into swinging beside her and things are going good until she hops off her swing and runs into her house (next door to the park). Jacob sees this and can't get off his swing fast enough, falling flat on his face like a pancake. No tears though... he was on a mission. I had to pry him out of her yard. Did I mention you need to lock up your daughters?
Today was the first day of kindergym. Both boys had a great time. I emailed the director about Jacob's lack of interest in parachute time and she responded that it is perfectly normal, further explaining "Some children's temperment or learning intelligence is to not be in a large crowd. He may be observing what is going on from a distance and that is how he needs to do it right now until he has the strengths with him to bring himself to the large group. It is developmentally appropriate. I bet he can do parachute time at home with you, because he is listening and learning from where he feels safe". That made me feel a lot better about things. Hopefully, he eventually becomes more comfortable in larger groups, otherwise private schools (with smaller class sizes) are going to be a big expense for us! But if that is what he needs, of course in a heartbeat, ya know?
We also had one of our family dinners today. It was a very good time. I made a spinach artichoke dip that went over very well. Normally I don't like to make things for others that I haven't tested on just us first, but luckily it worked out well (gotta love allrecips.com). Brody hung out in the bjorn the whole time, laughing and kicking. He was so distracted he went FIVE hours without eating! Crazy kid. Next week we are hosting, which should be cool because the salmon are HEAVY in the river right now and it is so amazing to watch them work their way up the weir. I think us ladies are also going out for a cocktail or two next Friday. Should be fun. Reminds me of the happy hours I spent at Ucello's with Kim and Shannon... SUCH good memories!
