The new house!

We've moved!  The previous resident retired so the log cabin became available and we made the switch to have more space and privacy.  There are a few disadvantages to the new place (you can hear the road a lot more, higher likelihood of spiders or critters, older wiring makes upgrades like a built-in dishwasher or garbage disposal impossible, very uneven floors and a lot of stairs!) but in most ways it's a nice change.  We moved on June 23rd a few hours after we got home from camping in Manistee with the Shadduck family.  It was the hottest, stickiest day of the summer!  But we were able to do everything in one day (I had been gradually moving toys & clothes into the attic and closets as well as kitchen things the week prior).  We did sleep in the camper the first night though since the beds weren't put together yet.  The next night was our first night in the house and besides Austin having some major potty training regression, everyone has adjusted well!  We had to purchase a gas dryer which was finally installed on the 3rd and Aaron has been working hard painting and taking care of upgrades but it's all coming together nicely.  Here are a BUNCH of before and after pictures but we can't wait to share it with you all in person :)

The gorgeous fireplace is not functioning (tiles are coming down), so we'll have a fireplace insert installed in the coming weeks.  Who could have a mantle like this and not have a fire?!  And the heating aspect will be nice too.

The new house! Kitchen & Den

Aaron removed the border, painted and replaced the knobs.  Well, most of the knobs - hopefully the drawer pulls will be added this weekend ;)
 

 

 

 

We don't love this table in here and we really don't like the portable dishwasher just hanging out like that so our plan is to build an island with bar seating and a spot to slide the dishwasher into.

 

 

The Den has 2 windows (and a door) to outside as well as 1 window peeking into our room and 1 peeking into the attic stairwell.

It also has a nice built in bookshelf and Aaron will use this closet as his own.

The new house! Our room and the bathroom

Our room was VERY white!  They had painted every log white and had also done the lovely plaster and cover with wallpaper 17 times thing.  So we ended up using more paneling here too.  By "we" I mean I helped make the decision and Aaron did everything else ;)

The board above the A/C will be painted NEXT year.  We moved at the hottest, most humid time of year and our ONLY priority was just getting it in and working.  We've added drapes since the photo was taken.

 

Aaron painted the walls a khaki color.  The pictures don't do it justice, it was a HUGE improvement!  Painting this room was also a huge undertaking since the logs double your surface area and make it impossible to use a roller.

We have tight quarters for the bathroom.  I guess it is a good thing we didn't have any girls after all!
