Last years Halloween was fabulous, so I was kind of prepared that it couldn't be quite as good this year. First off, Jacob's preschool Halloween party was canceled. Actually, preschool altogether was canceled last week because all the area schools were closed due to flu related absences. This was especially frustrating because part of the reason we left North Carolina on Wednesday was to ensure that we were home and well rested for school on Friday. My fault though, I was well aware that Traverse City area schools were closed, I should have checked to make sure Frankfort area schools were closed as well. In my defense, I DID check the website, but apparently they don't use their website to inform parents of school closings - I'm new to this whole thing and didn't really know where to check before. So we missed out on a beautiful day in NC.
Next, our downtown trick or treating on Friday was a little wet. And, we didn't meet up with our friends until we were done. And Brody sucks at trick or treating. Brody gladly received candy from the first store and then was d-o-n-e. All he wanted to do from that point was sit in the stroller and enjoy his sucker. Which was fine, we tried to get him to trick or treat at a few other places and then gave up and he was perfectly content. Jacob did great though and the rain didn't seem to bother him one bit. We got some pizza afterwards at a super busy Pangea's with our friends and then headed to Mark and Lisa's to drop off some goodies we picked up for them in NC.
And tonight we went over to our friends house who have an ideal little neighborhood for trick or treating and apparently arrived extremely late. Originally we were supposed to eat at 5:30 and trick or treat at 6:30, however it appeared as though everyone else arrived much earlier than that and when we arrived at 5:35 their kids were fed, dressed and headed out the door to trick or treat. Not my style to trick or treat before dark, but whatever it's not my house. So, let's just say my kids were less than thrilled to walk in the door, start playing with all the toys and then immediately begin getting dressed to head outside. Brody had an instant meltdown and it ended about 5 minutes ago. He cried the entire time we were outside, regardless of how much candy we threw in his face. Carrying around helped a bit, but wasn't exactly easy at 30 weeks pregnant (and Brody is a mamma's boy who definitely prefers mom over dad to carry him). Jacob usually needs a few minutes to adjust and warm up to new scenes and crowds and he didn't get that time either so he was a little quiet and slow for his trick or treating. Needless to say we gave up about 30 minutes into it and we went grocery shopping.
Is it NOVEMBER yet???
