Today I was brave enough to test the waters alone with the boys. First stop: my (old) work. Things went surprisingly smooth here, so much so that we added a few other stops. Jacob had a pretty good time at the office because I let him go out on the balcony and look at all the excitement. Common things you see in a city like street sweepers, delivery trucks and emergency vehicles are a pretty big deal to a two year old! Brody did a good job looking cute while we were there too. The only awkward part was when Jacob ventured off on his own and I found him digging through my old coworkers purse, with her cell phone in hand and some cash spread out on the floor beside him. YIKES!
Next stop: the park. We went to the one across from the Bay. It was a beautiful day here, like 70*, but very windy. Jacob had a great time playing on the equipment and didn't show any fear at all climbing around or going down the slides. There was a group of moms there that mostly stayed in their little clique, except for one that came over to ask me if I had a baby in the stroller. WTH? Like I'm just carrying around a stroller? So I then asked her when she was due and she goes on to tell me the end of may, which is also the same time her other son was born and that her husband's 53rd birthday is on May 23rd. How strange that she felt the need to tell me her husbands age? I still can't figure that one out. Onto our last stop...
The Chiropractor. I slept funny last night and kinked my neck so I decided to try to take the boys to the doc with me. I guess this was the point in the day where I become overconfident. Jacob is going through too much separation anxiety to just play with the kids toys, he needed to be in the room with me. Fine, no big deal, they just brought some crayons in for him to play with. So we are doing good, until the doctor comes in. Then Brody starts crying. No biggie, Sally from the front desk is the baby whisperer. She takes Brody out front and he is instantly calmed. Jacob on the other hand is wreaking havoc on the exam room while I am face down on the table. First he empties the trash can, piece by piece. Then he insists that both mommy AND the doctor draw him a fish. And another fish. And another. Finally, five fish later the doctor finishes up his work on my neck and meanwhile Jacob is laying on the ground throwing a fit. Luckily those appointments don't last too long, although this one felt like forever!
So overall, it was a pretty good day. I'm brave enough to try it again tomorrow for Kindergym.
Other news/Updates:
Brody is three weeks old today! He is beginning to get a little more fussy, but still a great baby. He still gets up to eat anywhere from 2-4hrs during the night, but thankfully he falls right back asleep after he eats. We now have a few nicknames for the little guy including Brodacious and Brod.eur (he's a NHL goalie). He rolled over for the first time last Saturday! I had him on his belly doing tummy time and when I glanced down he was suddenly on his back! Not sure how that happened! Just a fluke though, he hasn't done it since. Oh, and I forgot to mention on the post about his 2wk check up, but the doc diagnosed him with a plugged tear duct on his right eye. I guess it's pretty common and usually resolves itself by 9-10 months.
Jacob news... Well, spring is finally here and Jacob has the skinned knees to prove it :( He has taken a few spills already and yesterday was a doozy! He even ripped a hole in the knee of his pants! (Guess Brody won't be seeing those ones!) Poor guy was a little dramatic and even limped for a few minutes afterwards! His 2nd birthday is quickly approaching, but we are well into the terrible two's already. He tests us daily and I doubt we are passing the tests very well. His newest thing? Growling. It first happened the other day when he ran into the road in front of the house and Aaron grabbed him and carried him back to the house. Jacobs response? Raaar. He did it twice in fact. Then the other day when I was telling him NOT to feed the dog our dinner, he growled at me. Aaron and I can't help but laugh, but how do you respond to that?! I just can't say "Jacob, no growling!" with a straight face!
Aaron news... bittersweet. He didn't get offered the position, which is nice because he didn't have to turn it down, but is a bummer in general. He was a top contender though, so he feels good about that.
And finally, I'm doing pretty good and feeling mostly myself again. I'm stressed with trying to select a birth announcement photo and pick out a birthday invitation for Jacob. It's like I just want them to be perfect and so it makes it hard to make a decision. I also want to save money and go a cheaper route than I usually go and I fear the quality won't be the same. Ah well, if this is the worst of my concerns, then I guess we have it pretty darn good at the moment.
