After a brutal winter, it was no surprise that summer of 2014 was a little... chilly. We still had a few nice days though and when they happened our motto was CARPE DIEM! And we tried to take full advantage when we could. Here are a few pics from a trip to Petobego - our favorite sand bar in East Grand Traverse Bay. It's about a 40 minute drive for us, but well worth it once the water is warm enough in the bay. These pics are from a few different trips during July and August.
When you have 4 people fishing off of a 16ft boat, it's only a matter of time before someone gets hooked. We had *just* launched and Brody was struggling to cast out to a certain bass bed and asked Aaron for help. Aaron took his rod and tried to cast out far and ended up catching Jacob who was standing directly behind him. I had just put his sunscreen on, so he wasn't wearing a life jacket (he's a good swimmer, but we usually have them wear life jackets when fishing). After numerous attempts and methods to remove the hook, we realized we were going to have to take him in to have it removed. Mom and Bruce were on their way home from church and picked up me and Jacob (so we didn't have to drag 3 kids into the doctors, while pulling a boat on a trailer). We first tried Urgent Care but it was packed full of sick people. Then we tried the ER and were seen right away. They had the hook out within a few minutes, before Jacob was even registered. They used a shot to numb it then took a scalpel and nicked the skin off the burr to get it out (which took several attempts) and then scrubbed it. Jacob was a trooper and never cried! He was a little panicked on the boat, but for the most part handled it very well. Brody on the other hand was distraught! He was so upset that Jacob didn't realize until we returned that AARON was the one responsible and not Brody! So now, like any seasoned fisherman, Jacob has his own scar.
