We spent the past six weeks (and even a few weeks before that) staying in the house and trying to avoid illness, so it only figures the first time we venture out we picked something up! It was totally worth it though :) Last weekend we met up with the Shadduck family (Chris, Charissa, Kyra (4.5yrs) and Leah (2.5yrs) for lunch and playtime at the Children's Museum. Afterwards, the Shadducks checked into their room at Great Wolf Lodge and Aaron and I dropped the boys off at my parents and we did a little furniture shopping for the new big boy room. It was nice to have some alone time and we were able to select some bunk beds for the boys. We kept going back and forth about the bunk beds vs. two twins, but we ultimately decided on bunk beds so that we could continue to have 1 full bed in Jacob's room. It may be a pain in the rear to make them... but I guess I'll just have Aaron do that ;) The good news is that Jacob is super excited to have bunk beds... does this mean bed time will be easier now!? Oh wait, Brody will be the problem I think. The Hilley's came over to the parents while we were gone and we were sad to miss them, but it sounded like the boys had a lot of fun playing.
Sunday we checked into Great Wolf Lodge to join the Shadducks and hung out a bit in the room before heading to the water park. The boys were hilarious at the water park, they could not have been more different. Jacob very carefully and slowly walked the perimeter twice, taking everything in. He also managed to stay fairly dry both times we visited and never got his hair wet. Brody on the other hand, sprinted from the starting line and never stopped. He ran from place to place and couldn't get wet enough. It was definitely harder going from man-on-man defense back to zone coverage, but we managed! Austin did great and just slept most of the time. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, which is nice since it's so kid friendly, and then came back to our room for the superbowl and socialization. I have no idea how the game went, but I think Charissa and I feel caught up on each others lives somewhat! The kids had fun playing with each other too and I don't even think that Brody bit anyone... Success! I think he pinched the girls a few times but thankfully they are pretty tough! The kids slept fairly well in bunk beds and Austin even had a good night too. We hit the water park again in the morning and then checked out and headed home.
This past week we've stayed home mostly waiting for these colds to go away. Brody seems to have it the worst and Austin the least (thank goodness), although no one has had a fever with it or anything.
Friday I had my six week post partum check up and all is good. I've also made the decision for Aaron to forego the big snip and I'll be trying out Mirena (a 5 year IUD). It's not that I want more kids, I'm just not ready to make such a big decision but I think I will be in 4-5 years. So Aaron managed to escape unscathed... this time!
PS - Six weeks?! When did that happen, newborn is gone! :(
Saturday we had parents over for dinner and Jacob schooled Grandpa on Wii Sports Resort. Today we are celebrating Valentines day with a little Nascar - Daytona, baby! We're pretty excited to root for Martin and Sherry as Martin drives his first big race in the new Napa 56 car. If you are watching, Martin will be appearing in a Napa commercial, too! Race starts at 1pm.
