The latest

Things are going great here! Well, as good as expected for having a newborn anyway! I could use some more sleep and could shower a little more often, but other than that it's going great ;) I can't believe the little guy is 8 days old already :( I feel like he is already looking different and losing that delicious newborn baby smell! I took his weight this morning (love the scale, Deb!) and he is already up to 9lbs 10oz! I've felt great the last two days. My worst days were Sunday and Monday when suddenly it felt like I had been hit by a truck and my pelvis in particular ached really bad (which I don't remember that happening with the other two). Aaron has been going in to work every day this week for a couple hours (except Wednesday when he worked at his parents house, helping his dad out) and tomorrow he has the entire day off. My mom has helped out most days when Aaron has gone to work, so that has been helpful. Tomorrow I have an appointment to get photos done for a birth announcement/holiday card. I *hope* to get at least one good one of Austin and one good one of all three boys... fingers crossed!

Today was kind of a rough day for me on the mommy scale. I caused pain to all three of my kids. First off, I tried to trim Austin's fingernails. I have them covered up 24/7 so he can't scratch his little face, but I figured that tomorrow he will probably be mostly naked for some of his newborn shots so I better file down some of his sharp little nails. Well, the file didn't work so well so I thought I would try the clippers. His left hand was perfect. His right hand... ugh, notsomuch. I totally clipped his fingertip and it bled and I cried. Thank GOD he didn't cry, but I still feel terrible. I've since decided that Austin will have his hands covered for at least the next year, maybe longer. I'm not trying THAT again.

Next up: Jacob. Jacob never received his seasonal flu shot because they ran out the day before his appointment and then they were all back-ordered by the manufacturer with the rush to get the h1n1 vaccine out. I'm terrified of having a newborn during the cold/flu season and him getting sick so I wanted to make sure we are as protected as we can be. So I called this week and they had them back in supply, so we made the appointment. It was a difficult experience because Jacob is so aware of what is going on... it's way easier to deliberately cause pain to the younger ones! Jacob was a trooper though and didn't even cry, but I could tell he wanted to.

Finally, it was Brody's turn. Brody's hair suddenly grew like crazy over the past two weeks and since we are doing photos tomorrow, I wanted him to have a little trim. I think Brody was the most offended by the rough experiences today. He fought and cried and said "ALL DONE" at least a dozen times. I don't know HOW the stylist avoided cutting an ear or something, but thankfully she didn't actually cause him any physical pain. Despite that, my dramatic little guy still had the biggest reaction to the trauma.
