For the most part, he is at a great age... although every once and awhile I catch a glimpse of what is to come with the "terrible two's". Oh, and Jacob is working on cutting his SEVENTH tooth!!

It's been a great summer so far. Debby's Bachelorette Party was last Saturday and it was a great time, we can't wait for the wedding! This coming weekend we are going to visit Jeanine and family in Six Lakes, I can't wait to get the babies together! Thanks Julie, for the info on speech, it does make me feel better! Sure wish the kid would at least start calling me mama though... Oh, and I think I might have forgot to mention this, but Tom and Natalie are having a BOY!!! And Natalie is due September 29th. Hopefully she finds some ways to stay cool this summer out there in the Southern Utah heat, yowser!

12month Check up

It's been a busy couple of days, but here is the latest update!

Jacob is a little off schedule on his well baby check ups. He had his "12 Month" last Thursday and it did NOT go well. Jacob HATES the doctor's office (and the doctor) and is NOT afraid to let anyone know. He does fine in the waiting room, but as soon as we get back to the exam room, he cries and screams. I'm sure our doctor thinks we have this terrible child. I was slightly irritated with the office though, because I learned that they somehow forgot to give Jacob his polio vaccination at his 6 month appointment. I think that is strange, because I always remember him getting 3 shots at each appointment, but the doctor said they record it in 3 places to ensure that their records are correct and it wasn't record in any of their 3 places (or my record book), and he assured me that if he DID get it, that getting it again wouldn't be harmful. Anyways... other than that, things went well. Doc said Jacob needs to lose the bottle. We are pretty relaxed about that... maybe we will try to get rid of it before his next appointment in December. He said his motor skills are advanced, but he is behind in his speech - but that most kids excel in one area, then catch up, so he's not concerned. He said Jacob should know 5 words right now and be able to use them right (ie - not calling the car "Kitty"). We are working on that, big time, because I HATE that Jacob just screams whenever he wants something. And as far as his stats, he is measuring the same place as his 9 month: 90% for head, 50% height and 10% for weight. The only measurement I remember was weight, he is now 20lbs 9oz.

Other than that, not too much new. I'm hosting a bachelorette party for Debby this weekend with my friend Kim at my mom's place (Thanks, mom!) - should be a great time. We rented a limo and are going wine tasting! And we have made a game just for Debby that I can't wait to play. I got the idea from Lisa's bachelorette party and it was a blast then, so I'm sure it will be on Saturday too!

Time for an update...

Sorry I haven't written in awhile! Things are going good! We went to the Leland Wine & Food Festival this past weekend and had a great time! Here are some pics from last year and then one from this year. What a difference a year makes! A lady at the Fest asked if this was Jacob's first wine fest and we proudly said "Nope, second!" It was a good time and really fun to hang out with our local and distant friends.
In other news, Jacob has learned a few new things this past week. He just discovered that spinning is fun. He also said "Mama" for the first time, although I think he is trying to ask for milk as opposed to me :(. Jacob can now 'give you five' and he can ride his quad that he received as a birthday present from Grandma. I am trying to take photos or video, but they haven't turned out too well, I'll keep trying and post it when I can! Oh, and he is finally getting used to his big boy shoes.

Camping

This Memorial weekend we decided to try camping for the first time with not only Jacob, but also Roxy. Jacob did GREAT, Roxy... not so much. Roxy was very uncomfortable with all the strangers running around and well, whenever ANY other dog would bark, she would have to chime in, too. Our campsite was a little crowded, and not because of Jacob, Roxy or the friends we camped with, but because of SNAKES!!! They were NOT invited and I think it was quite rude of them to hang out near us. They minded their own business though, so I didn't have that big of a problem with them. Aaron was quite surprised that I didn't make him pack up and head home the minute I saw one. Our campsite was right on the Betsie River in Benzonia (only about 10 minutes from our house) and was very beautiful. It was a little tiring constantly making sure Jacob stayed out of the campfire and river, but not as much as I expected it to be. My other concern was Jacob being able to sleep in the new environment and with all our noise at the nearby campfire, but he did just fine and slept through the night. Jacob's favorite part of the trip was collecting rocks in any sort of container or cup and then shaking them. He was pretty darn cute too, dancing to some Bob Marley that Dennis had playing for us, waving to strangers and just being silly.

Exhausted

Jacob, that is. Jacob had a great birthday and birthday party and is still trying to recover. He has had two 12hr nights in a row (usually he has about 10hr nights) and then yesterday he took a 3hr 45min nap!

The party was great, it was nice to hang out with friends and family. The food was delicious, thanks mom! I think Jacob's favorite part of the party was when he discovered a puddle and ran back and forth splashing, having a ball! Something mom would ONLY let him get away with during his birthday party! Jacob didn't care for the cake too much. He really didn't like the way the frosting felt in his fingers and eventually just picked up the whole piece and threw it on the floor. He DID enjoy the punch that Grandpa was feeding him though!

One Year Ago Today...

I remember...

Being in an extreme amount of pain (that came and went, which surprised me... as difficult as the pain was, I really didn't expect the periods of relief in between contractions) .

Thinking I "tricked" my doctor into admitting me after my second trip to the hospital telling them I was in labor. The nurse told me "you are going to have your baby today!" and I remember thinking "Yes! They bought it!"

Loving the bath and shower and the relief in provided to my labor pains.



Jacob's heart rate dropping with each contraction until finally the doctor and nurses lost Jacob's heart tones completely and prepared for an emergency cesarean section and thinking I lost the person who meant more to me than anyone in my whole life, yet I had never even met. I just kept thinking I can't believe I've come so far to lose it all now. Amazingly I held it together until we finally found those amazing heart tones... of course afterwards I lost it, bawling hysterically to which one very wise nurse informed me "we can't hear your baby's heart if you keep crying like that", never in my life have I tried harder to regain my composure.

Being INSANELY jealous when peeking in on all the other Families in their maternity rooms, enjoying their babies and feeling like I had SO FAR to go before our baby would be born.

Hearing my nurse tell me "He's really good, you know" when referring to Aaron as a labor and delivery coach... "They aren't all like that".

My doctor running between my room and the room next door as we were both delivery babies at the same time and assuring me that she was keeping a close eye on Jacob, despite catching a placenta in the next room

Thinking things CAN'T be going right... after all I've been pushing for like 30 minutes, aren't most babies born after like 3 good pushes?! I've given at least 5 good pushes!!

Feeling an enormous sense of calmness when Jacob was finally born.

I've got to say... as uncomfortable as pregnancy and childbirth were, I would do it all over again in an instant.

What a miracle.
