We heard from our mechanic yesterday and learned that it was our water pump that took out the timing belt and damaged a few more things raising our total cost to $735 - ouch! It's been a great car though and things like this happen when you drive a 1999, so it's not totally unexpected.
I also checked out the travel interruption program from AAA and I'm not sure if the program changed since last time we used it or if I just didn't remember it correctly, but I'm not sure we have a claim. The requirements are that you are more than 100 miles from home and it looks like we were about 90-ish. Also, the limits are $600, not $250 like I thought, but that doesn't help us much! We'll still submit a claim for the cost of our rental and the meal we had there, but won't be holding our breath... I still highly recommend AAA, especially if you have an older car.
Aaron was able to take care of his work issues for Tuesday, so he is clear to come down with me. His mom is able to watch the boys, as well, so that has been resolved. Although, I am nervous about her watching them for such a long time. Hopefully, the don't get sick like last time... not sure what was up with that?!
And finally, I love my new rental! It is fast, smooth, quiet, comfortable... ahhhh! It's a Nissan Altima, but who knows.... maybe the fact that my car has 121,000 miles and this car only has 800 makes it drive a lot smoother!!! Or maybe it really is just a nice car! Anyways, I'll be sad to give it back next week!
What else... yesterday was a fun and busy day. In the morning I took Brody in to the pediatrician to check on a few things. First his ears, because his balance seems a bit off lately. All clear there, she said that since he just started walking a month ago he is probably getting sloppy and trying to go to fast, so it just seems like his balance is getting bad. Second, his eye... while at Grandma's on Thursday Brody tripped over the dog and landed on a toy scratching his eye somehow. He had pink tears, but we couldn't see a cut in the eye. She didn't see anything either and said his eye looks fine. Third, we had his little legs checked out. With the temperature warming up, Brody's eczema really flared up on his legs AND he has a bit of poison ivy. So we have some steroid cream for that, hopefully it will help.
After the doctor we headed out to Adam & Danielle's place on Lake Leelanau. Danielle and I chatted while the boys played in the sand and water. I wish I had my camera with me, because it's such a beautiful lake. I've been terrible about taking pictures lately! The boys had a great time and got along well for the most part.
After a long nap for the boys it was off to toysrus to purchase a birthday gift for Jack and then off to Jack's birthday party (nothing like waiting until the last minute!). Jack loved his birthday gifts and so did Brody! Jack kept having to hide a few from him, I think he was worried Brody was going to take them home!
Today Brody and I are just hanging out a bit. Aaron and Jacob went fishing with Grandpa Switzer. Hopefully they will be back in time to go to the beach for a bit this afternoon. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Well, it's nice to see you had a quieter day! Sheesh! Hoping you have many more miles on that car w/o problems too. Mine's a '99 too but I'm at 150k miles and 2 years into a rebuilt engine. We'll see how long the van lasts...
