Yikes, here we go again with a very long pause between my posts! How did I miss April altogether?! We've been keeping busy with small little community commitments as our kids get us wrapped up in more and more activities. Let's see... after Brody's birthday came Easter (pics to follow soon) which was awesome! It started off not so great with a difficult visit with the in laws followed up with Aaron and I working in the nursery at church while I battled a migraine, but thankfully Meijers was open so I was able to pick up some Maxalt and an hour later I was feeling good. We all loved out egg hunt and delicious dinner at Grandma & Grandpa's and then we headed home for an egg hunt at our house. The egg hunt started outside and then inside one of the hidden eggs was a clue for a scavenger hunt in the house for their Easter baskets. It was so cool that Jacob could sound out and read the clues himself this year!
The following week Brody had his immunizations. It was awful :( I knew it was going to be difficult so I purchased a 6-pack of Lightning McQueen cars to surprise him with. He was pretty thrilled with the cars initially, but when he laid down the tears came and the cars didn't help much. It didn't take long though and he was quickly soothed, so I figured we were in the clear... until we came home. I took him to the bathroom and carefully pulled his pants down over his thighs for him to go potty without disturbing the area of his shots and he saw the bandaids. He gasped as though he just realized he had two huge casts on his legs and then for the rest of the night walked around as though he had two broken legs. Later that night the band aid fairy came and *thought* she removed all the bandaids, but unfortunately missed one. So for the rest of the morning, he continued to refuse the bathroom and walk with broken legs. Eventually he forgot about it - phew!!!
That weekend we went to visit our very good friends Kim and Peg in Ann Arbor. Grandma and Grandpa were nice enough to take the kiddos for us, so it was awesome to enjoy an adult evening out in a "big city". We dined at Arbor brewing, drank some bells out of mason jars at Dominicks and checked out their new home (currently under construction). It was such fun and we can't wait until we get to visit them at their new place!
Can't remember what we did the weekend after that (although I'm pretty sure Aaron was on call). The following weekend was a busy one, Aaron went to help out on Saturday morning with prepping baseball fields for T-ball, meanwhile I volunteered a few hours at the Celebration of the Young Child event at a booth for the preschool, helping kids make butterflies ;) After that, Aaron was on call till 7pm for wildfires. Wildfire on call hours are a lot different than regular on call hours because his response time is much shorter, so he can't leave the hatchery at all. To me it's more like he is "at work" then he is "on call". Sunday Aaron had more wildfire on call hours and worked from noon till 8pm.
The first weekend in May we attended a Spring Fling fundraiser for Brody's preschool. Grandma and Grandpa brought Noah and Mason so all the cousins had a ball playing together! Sunday I worked in the nursery again, thankfully without a headache this time!
Mothers Day weekend started off with a Mother Daughter Banquet at the Church. The food was great, the company was so friendly and we got a great new book called "My whole self before you" a kids version of the Lord's prayer.
Next, on Friday we went to Spring Carnival for Jacob's school. The carnival was a blast and Noah, Mason, Grandma & Grandpa joined us again. After a very successful ball toss game, the Hilley's and Switzer's are now the proud owners of several goldfish! (Yes, I'm fully expecting Mark and Lisa to pay us back with bringing Jacob a feral kitten for his birthday - ha!) Brody got to experience a bounce house for the first time (Jacob still refuses to partake in that nonsense) and it was only partially embarrassing trying to drag Mason and Brody OUT of the bounce house when their turns were over! The kiddos had such a good time together though, we sure are glad they live close enough to enjoy things like this together!
Saturday Aaron took the boys out to his parents house and mom and I did a little shopping, went to see "The 5 year Engagement" and finished up the evening at Buffalo Wild Wings while rooting for our favorite driver. It was a great day!
Sunday I took Brody to Church with me and he did great in his class. Afterward we picked up fabric to recover our kitchen chairs and then had lunch with Grandma and Grandpa. We ended the evening at our favorite beach and it was *almost* perfect until I stepped in a bucket (Seriously? An f-ing bucket? What is this a "three's company" episode?!) and totally injured my bad toe. It's slowly getting better, but I don't dare try the treadmill out again yet.
Jacob had a field trip today to Moomers and then Young People's Theater to see Rainbow Fish. I'll find out in about 30 minutes how that went. Tomorrow, Brody has his field trip to moomers and luckily I get to join him for ice cream after :) Tonight I'm hosting an open house at the Preschool and then Saturday we'll have Jacob's birthday party! Jacob had so much fun at Brody's birthday that he has requested everything the same... no problemo buddy, easy enough for me!
So that is about all that we have been up to lately! I'll finish up with my FAVORITE Brody quotes recently:
Today, on our way into town:
Mom, Are there any bones in my penis?
And then a few days ago while I was stacking three pop cans to take to recycling he says:
Oh wow!! I want it to go all the way to the ceiling!!
At 4 years old he already has drunken frat boy aspirations. I see many, many beer pyramids in his future!
That kid never disappoints, let me tell ya!!
